Thomas R. Kay, M.D.
Born in Philadelphia, Dr. Kay grew up in South Jersey. He went to high school at St. Joseph's Prep in Philadelphia. In 1966, he graduated from Temple University, Summa Cum Laude, with a B.A. in psychology and graduated from Jefferson Medical College in 1970.
A rotating internship and a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Cooper University Hospital followed graduation from medical school. The next two years were spent in the U.S. Navy teaching residents at the Naval Regional Medical Center, Philadelphia. After leaving the Navy, Dr. Kay entered private practice in 1976, and subsequently joined with Drs. Salerno and Moors in 1981 to form Garden State OB/GYN Associates.
Dr. Kay was Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1976 and underwent voluntary recertification in 1993 and continues to be recertified annually. He served as Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Virtua West Jersey Health System, (2001-2008) as well as President of the Medical Staff 2007 to 2009. Dr. Kay is currently the Board Chairman for Regional Women’s Health Group, LLC and a member of the Board of Trustees of Virtua Health. In addition, he is a past president of the NJ OB/Gyn Society. In 2008 he received the Award of Excellence from the March of Dimes for his outstanding accomplishments in the field of maternal & child healthcare.
Angela, Dr. Kay's wife, is a registered nurse, as well as a Certified Ultrasonographer in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and works in the office in both capacities. There are four children, Jeffrey, Stephen, Nicole, and Ashley. Dr. and Mrs. Kay reside in Medford where they tend to their horses.

Bernard J. Cortese, M.D.
Dr. Cortese grew up in Collingswood, New Jersey. In 1968, he graduated from Camden Catholic High School. He received his B.A. in Biology and Anthropology from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana in 1973. He received his M.D. in 1980 from the Autonomous University of Guadalajara Medical School.
Internship and residency were completed at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey at Cooper Medical Center. He joined Drs. Kay, Moors, and Salerno upon graduation in 1986. Board certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology followed in 1988. Dr. Cortese is currently the Department Chief for the Section of Gynecology at Virtua Health System, Voorhees. He has also been recognized by Virtua as one of their outstanding physicians receiving the Award of Excellence in 2009 for demonstrating the Virtua STAR qualities by promoting a caring culture and providing excellent patient service.
Dr. Cortese and his family live in Haddon Heights, New Jersey. He travels to Guatemala each year on a medical mission together with other staff from Virtua – Voorhees. He enjoys flying and outdoor activities.

Joanne Swift, M.D.
Dr. Swift was born and raised in Marlton and was in the first graduating class at Cherokee High School in 1982. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from LaSalle College with a B.A. in biology in the school's Honor Program. She graduated from Jefferson Medical College in 1986 where she was the first woman president of AOA, the Honor Medical Society.
Dr. Swift completed a four-year Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program at the Medical Center of Delaware in Newark, Delaware. She has been in private practice at Garden State OB/GYN Associates since 1990 and was Board Certified in OB/GYN in 1992. She was recently featured in twelve “Accent Health” episodes shown in physician waiting rooms nationwide, dealing with various obstetrical topics.
Mark Hummel, M.D., Dr. Swift's husband, is a pediatrician in private practice with Kids First Mt. Laurel; a Children's Hospital of Philadelphia affiliated practice. They keep busy with their three daughters, Katie, Maddie, and Danielle, and live in Marlton.
Kathleen M. Steighner, M.D.
Dr. Steighner was born in Lincoln Heights, a small town in Western Pennsylvania, where she grew up with her mother, a teacher, her father, a plant engineer in a small manufacturing company, and her elder brother, now a newspaper editor. She graduated first in her class from Hempfield Area High School in 1977. She was elected to Phi Beta Kappa at the Johns Hopkins University and graduated with honors with a B.A. in biology in 1981. She was recognized as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society at the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Medicine, one of the top five students in her class, receiving her M.D. in 1985.
Dr. Steighner completed a four-year residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Abington Memorial Hospital in 1989 and received board certification in 1991. She entered private practice with Valley Forge OB/GYN Associates in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, where she lived and worked until April of 1993. In 1993, Dr. Steighner relocated to Voorhees and joined with Garden State OB/GYN Associates.
Her husband, Robert, is a commercial airline pilot. She has three daughters, Heather, Marla, and Julia and 2 stepchildren, Jennifer & Robert. Dr. Steighner earned her pilot certificate in 1999, a hobby on the back burner. She spends her spare moments at the William G. Rohrer Center, with her family, and in church activities.
Ryan L. Colella, M.D.
Originally from Medford, New Jersey, Dr. Colella graduated Magna Cum Laude from Temple University in 1990 with a B.A. in biology. He then entered Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, graduating in 1995. In medical school, Dr. Colella earned several distinguished honors, including Alpha Omega Alpha, Medical Student of the Year in Obstetrics and Gynecology 1993-1994, and the Harry H. Brenner Award for the Graduating Medical Student with the Highest Interest and Proficiency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Following graduation, Dr. Colella completed the OB-GYN residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in 1999. During his residency, Dr. Colella was presented with the Dr. B. Frank Lovett Award for Excellence and Compassion in Women's Healthcare. As a Chief Resident, Dr. Colella was named Resident of the Year. This award is given to the resident who has best displayed the personal and professional attributes of a physician throughout resident training.
After completing resident training, he joined Garden State OB-GYN Associates. Dr. Colella continues to receive recognition in the community. In 2009, he received the Patient Choice Award as a favorite physician in New Jersey and was selected as a New Jersey Top Physician in OB-Gyn in 2010.
Dr. Colella presently lives in Medford with his wife, Tina, and their four children, Michael, Kristen, Julianna, and Nina. In his free time, Dr. Colella likes to spend time with his family, playing ice hockey and collecting wine.
Suzanne F. Mackey, M.D.
Dr. Mackey was born in Duluth, MN, however, she spent most of her life in the suburbs of Philadelphia, PA, before relocating with her family to Cherry Hill in 1992. While attending Dickinson College, she was recognized as an Academic All-American Athlete after obtaining eight varsity letters in field hockey and softball and graduating with honors with a B.S. in biology. She started her medical career as an Emergency Medical Technician and later attended the University Pittsburgh School of Medicine where she obtained her Medical degree. Upon graduation, Dr. Mackey came home to Philadelphia to train in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. She received recognition for three consecutive years by the students and faculty for her "Excellence in Medical Education" and, upon graduation, was named "Resident of the Year". After completing residency training in 2000, Dr. Mackey joined Garden State OB/GYN Associates.
Dr. Mackey continues her interest in athletics, road races, and triathlons. Dr. Mackey currently lives in Haddonfield with her husband, Scot, daughters, Lydia, Abby, and Courtenay, and their dog, Bree.
Kimberly Bridges-White, M.D.
Dr. Kimberly Bridges-White was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and grew up in nearby Lafayette Hill. She attended Central High School where she was a Barnwell Honor Student and received the Bennett I. Solomon Award. She graduated Cum Laude in 1994 from Temple University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology. Dr. White went on to attend Temple University School of Medicine where she graduated in 1998. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Albert Einstein Medical Center. While in medical school, Dr. White was recognized by the Medical Society of Eastern Pennsylvania for her leadership, achievement and community service.
Currently, Dr. White is a Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. She enjoys playing competitive tennis, horseback riding and skiing.
Amy A. Articolo, D.O.
Amy Articolo, D.O., is originally from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where she grew up and attended The Lancaster County Day School. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Cum Laude with a Bachelor's degree in American History and English Literature, where she also concentrated on the premedical sciences. She later went on to the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine where her love for women's health care began. She completed her training at The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and was recognized at her graduation with The Ralph J. Onofrio Surgical Award. This award is granted to the senior resident who best displays compassion, excellent surgical skills, and a deep fund of knowledge in the care of the operative and postoperative patient.
Dr. Articolo has been in private practice since 2003 and became certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2005. She is a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Obstetrics and Gynecology and a member of American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, New Jersey Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons, and the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, and National Association of Professional Women.
Amy Articolo, D.O., resides in Marlton, New Jersey, with her husband, Glenn, daughters, Lauren and Leah, and their cats, Bella and Sammy. Her passion is for her family and women's health care. Her interests include running, travel, reading, swimming, and family activities.
Sarah Rosen, M. D.
Dr. Rosen was raised in Cherry Hill, NJ and graduated from Cherry Hill High School West. While attending the University of Virginia, she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and graduated with honors in 1999. She then returned to her home State to attend medical school at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
After graduation from medical school in 2003, Dr. Rosen went on to complete her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.In 2007, she joined the OB/Gyn faculty at Thomas Jefferson University. She served as an attending physician there for two years, where she also was a Clinical Instructor for both the Medical Students and Residents. In 2009, Dr. Rosen relocated to Cherry Hill, NJ and joined Garden State OB-Gyn Associates. She lives with her husband Jeremy, an anesthesiologist, and their kids, Max and Zoe.
Dr. Rosen is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a Fellow in the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. In her spare time, Dr. Rosen relaxes by reading novels and enjoying local restaurants with friends.
Emily K. Ricci, M.D.
A native of Lawrenceville, New Jersey, Dr. Emily Ricci attended undergraduate school at Boston College where she majored in English. Dr. Ricci entered the Pre-Med program at Boston College while earning The National Society of Collegiate Scholars in March, 1999, the Dean’s List Highest Honors in 2001-2002, and The Golden Key International Honor Society in 2002.
As a Medical Student, Intern, and Resident at Thomas Jefferson University Medical School, Dr. Ricci continued to receive numerous awards and recognition for her outstanding academic achievements. She also pursued her personal interests in community service, leadership, and volunteerism. Despite a heavy academic load in medical school and residency, Dr. Ricci found time to volunteer with organizations such as Jeff Elect, Jeff Hope Clinics, UIH Family partners, and others where she served to educate and meet the medical needs of the underserved communities of Philadelphia. These roles required countless hours of service where she coordinated and facilitated relevant lectures in women’s health and reproductive issues as well as working with teen Mothers to educate them in infant nutrition, daycare, and birth control. In 2009, Dr. Ricci received the B. Frank Lovett Memorial Fund Award for Compassion and Excellence in the Medical Care of Women and the John B. Franklin, M.D. Award for Dedication, Compassion, and Humanitarianism 2010.
Today Dr. Ricci continues to enjoy living the “city life” and culture of Philadelphia where she enjoys the many new restaurants with friends and family. Traveling, reading, and yoga are just a few of Dr. Ricci’s favorite pastime pursuits.
Barbara Evangelisti, MSN, APN-C
After graduating from Gloucester County College in 1983, Barbara Evangelisti worked as an R.N. in Labor and Delivery. In 1987, the Nurse's Association of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology certified her as a Women's Health Care Practitioner. Barbara Evangelisti continued her education, earning a B.S. in Nursing at Widener University. While attending Widener, she was elected to Sigma Theta Tau, the National Honor Society of Nursing. Barbara Evangelisti graduated in 1993 with a 4.0 G.P.A. The following year, she earned a Master's degree in Women's Health from the University of Pennsylvania. Barbara Evangelisti has been in private practice since 1987 and joined Garden State OB-GYN Associates in 1998. She is certified in colposcopy and is a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer in OB/GYN.
Marianne Ecker, MSN, APN-C
Marianne Ecker brings more than 20 years of health care experience to Garden State OB/GYN. She received her BSN in nursing from Thomas Jefferson, her MSN from University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and her Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner certification through Planned Parenthood Federation of America in conjunction with Drexel University. She has concentrated her work in the care of women and children her entire career, with experience in Labor and Delivery, Newborn ICU, Postpartum, and Childbirth Education. She served as Clinical Coordinator for Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Thomas Jefferson for 13 years working with high-risk pregnancy before joining our practice in 2003. Marianne serves as preceptor/clinical instructor for NP students lectures on high-risk obstetrics.
Marianne brings her role as High Risk OB Coordinator to our practice. She follows patients with pregnancies complicated by chronic medical conditions such as diabetes and hypertension or those who have experienced premature delivery or other complications of pregnancy. She is also proud to serve our obstetrical and gynecological patients, and enjoys the diversity of her position.
Marianne lives in Cinnaminson, New Jersey. She has two sons who make her proud to be a mom every day. In her leisure time she enjoys family, friends, and travel.
Joan Kiely, MSN, APN-C
Joan Kiely was born and raised in Danbury, CT. She received her B.S.N. in nursing from Georgetown University. Since that time, Joan has spent many years working at Georgetown University Medical Center in different capacities. In addition, to working in Labor and Delivery for 16 years, she also spent several years working as the Assistant to the Dean for Undergraduate Admissions for the School of Nursing. In 1996, Joan received her Masters in nursing in the Family Nurse Practitioner program. For several years, Joan practiced as a Nurse Practitioner in an OB/GYN practice that was a satellite office of the Department of OB/GYN of Georgetown University Medical Center. She was a preceptor for medical and nurse practitioner students and a guest lecturer on Women's Health for the Georgetown School of Nursing Nurse Practitioner program as well. Joan received a Masters in Liberal Studies at Georgetown University examining the cultural side of medicine. Her thesis, Representations of Nurses in Western Culture, explored society's perception of the role of nurses as healers and women in the workplace.
Joan joined Garden State OB-Gyn Associates in 2004. Currently, she is on the Faculty at the University of Pennsylvania in the Graduate Family Health Nurse Practitioner Program. Joan is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She is a member of the National Association of Nurse Practitioner's in Women's Health.
Joan lives in Collingswood with her husband, Tom, and her two children, Rebecca and Michael. Joan's hobbies are running, reading and entertaining.
Dorothy Strikey, MSN, APN-C
After graduating from Holy Family University in 1987, Dorothy R. Strikey worked as a staff nurse at Albert Einstein Medical Center in the department of maternal child health. From 1989-1993 she worked as an office nurse with Drs. Sonder & Bossard in their private OB/GYN practice in Philadelphia. After graduating from the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Nursing Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner Program with her MSN degree, she joined Vanguard OB/GYN Services at Episcopal Hospital providing comprehensive women’s health care to impoverished women in North Philadelphia.
In 1996, Dorothy joined the faculty of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner Program as a full time faculty member and Program Coordinator of the PPFA Advance Practice Clinician Colposcopy Program, a position she held until 2009 when the colposcopy program was transitioned to Drexel University. In addition to her academic career, she continued clinical practice as a nurse practitioner and nurse colposcopist with Dr. Neil Isdaner at Jeane’s Hospital for twelve years. From 2007 through 2009, she practiced at the OB/GYN Clinic at Our Lady of Lourdes Women’s Health Clinic in Willingboro, NJ before coming to Garden State OB/GYN.
Dorothy was born and raised in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia of which she takes great pride and enjoyment in her cultural heritage. She now lives in Voorhees with her husband Rob, a Mechanical Engineer for the Navy Department, their son Robert and their cat Bella. As a family they enjoy boating, the shore, and gatherings with family and friends.
Denise Cafagna, CNM
Denise Cafagna was born in Japan and moved to Audubon, New Jersey, as a child. She received her B.S. in Nursing from Thomas Jefferson University-College of Allied Health Science in 1987. Over the next 12 years, she worked as a registered nurse at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and Cooper Medical Center primarily in Labor and Delivery. In 1997, she earned her M.S. degree in Nursing and a Certificate in Nurse-Midwifery from the University of Pennsylvania. In 1998, she obtained her certification as a Nurse-Midwife by the American College of Nurse-Midwives and remains a member of this professional organization.
After successfully completing her midwifery training, Denise provided OB/GYN care in a comprehensive, full scope midwifery practice at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby, Pennsylvania. She also has been a clinical preceptor for students in the University of Pennsylvania's Midwifery Program and for UMDNJ nursing students. She has volunteered her time to participate as a member in a mission to Kenya with Operation Smile, a non-profit medical organization. She enjoys traveling, playing tennis, golf, and spending time at the beach. Denise lives with her husband, Jim, and her two children in Medford, New Jersey.
Jill McDonald MSN, APN-C
Jill McDonald was born, raised and educated in Philadelphia. Jill attended Widener University where she received her Bachelor's degree in Nursing. After graduating Jill worked at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in center city, specializing in obstetrics and informatics. She worked as a registered nurse on Labor and Delivery, providing high quality care to obstetrical patients. While at Jefferson, Jill also worked in conjunction with nursing and medical staff functioning as the Perinatal System Manager. Her dedication to the growth and promotion of healthcare led her back to the classroom to pursue a Masters degree. In June of 2011, Jill graduated with honors from Drexel University; awarded a Masters of Science in Nursing. She is Board Certified as a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner by the National Certification Cooperation and a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the National Nursing Honor Society.
Jill resides in Barrington with her husband Kevin. Their large family fills their life with love and laughter; together they enjoy sports, traveling, and time at the shore.
